Our work in Wales

Our work in Wales

The culture and politics of Wales make it unique and challenging to get right. This means we need an approach suited to Wales which our staff are well placed to provide.

We focus on Welsh habitats, species and policy-relevant issues, delivered within the BTO’s UK-wide research framework.

Our evidence-led and non-campaigning identity means our data is objective and high-quality. It is trusted and used by organisations and individuals such as the Welsh Government, and conservation and land management decision-makers, enabling them to make well-informed choices.

To support this, we engage with large numbers of dedicated bird survey volunteers, and seek to develop, and support them at all times. There are times when a different approach is called for and the BTO’s extensive network of volunteers is complemented by scientists, professional fieldworkers and research collaborators and partners.
