Request and use raw data

Our independent and sound science means our data are often used by conservation groups, government agencies, planners, ecologists, industrialists, environmental consultants and scientific researchers. 

You can request data for a specific species, area or survey.

• Please note: we are now fulfilling requests for data for use in desk studies and Ecological Impact Assessments (non-coastal) via BTO Data Reports.

Survey / project data

• Data can be supplied from all our surveys / projects.

• If you wish to request survey data from BTO please fill in our data request form. Please note that requesting survey data is different to requesting a BTO Data Report (a chargeable service).
• If you wish to request data specifically relating to the Wetland Bird Survey (WeBS) please read our information about WeBS data requests prior to completing a Data Request form.

Species and area data

• Use our data search tool to find out what data are available for different species or areas and send us a request for the data you need.
• If you know which data you wish to request from BTO please fill in the data request form. Please note that requesting survey data is different to requesting a BTO Data Report (a chargeable service).

Data for Ecological Impact Assessments

BTO Data Reports provide rigorous scientific information to inform fieldwork decisions and desk studies for Ecological Impact Assessment of potential development sites in the UK. 

Reports collate comprehensive and contemporary bird distribution and abundance data from BTO's high quality ornithological datasets to identify species associated with the site at different spatial scales, and to put these in wider contexts to identify key features. 

They are a chargeable service.

Acoustic data tools

The BTO Acoustic Pipeline offers unrivalled species identification and data management for acoustic monitoring, and is used across the globe in conservation, management and site assessment. 

It provides a smooth and easy end-to-end workflow, with free support from our in-house experts, classifiers for ultrasonic and audible sound, and free or scalable paid plans with bespoke data management options.
