Western Bonelli's Warbler

Western Bonelli's Warbler

Phylloscopus bonelli

Introduction

Recently separated as a species from the eastern form, this is a rare visitor to Britain & Ireland from upland woodlands in southern Europe.

Records tend to come from the autumn period, which is unusual for a migrant species breeding at the western end of the Mediterranean.

Bonelli's Warbler was the first bird for which DNA data contributed to a split into two species.
