Framing Futures

What we are doing

Through our Framing Futures Action Area we are using our science to track the impacts of, and inform responses to, future climate change and new environmental threats to birds.

The role of the Framing Futures Action aArea is to focus on large-scale analyses of biodiversity monitoring and surveillance data to answer key questions about the drivers of change that will shape populations and distributions of birds in the future. These include examining potential responses to issues such as climate change, disease, the use of pesticides, insect declines, non-native species, and changes occurring across long-distance migratory routes that influence wild birds and their habitats at large scales.

Much of the monitoring and research that BTO undertakes is species and site focused, and this action area is taking an overview of these dispersed threats at both UK and country levels, as well as considering global changes. This will provide evidence of key threats to bird populations, identifying where these threats are having the most damaging impacts, and modelling how they may develop in the future; necessary information to effectively seek solutions to threats. As the following projects demonstrate, we are already delivering vital evidence in support of our wider response to the suite of threats that our birds and other wildlife currently face.

The following projects are contributing towards the delivery of our Framing Futures Action Area's outcomes, and we are very grateful to all of the people and partners who are making this possible.
