About BTO in England

In addition to being the base for our Headquarters, England provides a focus for several important areas of BTO's work. Our Evidence Partnership with Natural England, for example, uses our expertise and long-running citizen science datasets to inform policy and management decisions for the benefit of birds and people in England. Our contribution to Defra's Ecosystem Value Assessment Scenario Tool (EVAST) provides information on the likely consequences of different policy scenarios for bird communities.

Our Engagement Staff, working with members of the Regional Network, support the delivery of monitoring schemes and surveys across England, including those with a specific focus on the country and its bird populations. In recent years these have included a survey of Breeding Waders of Wet Meadows, the study of birds using farm woodlands, and annual contributions to the monitoring of England's butterfly populations.
