Please use the Scotland-specific Letters of Introduction for fieldwork undertaken in Scotland. Otherwise, use the Land Access Permission Letters.

BBS Online help for ROs

ROs can use BBS Online to:

  • Set up volunteers with access to their BBS squares or WBBS stretches online.
  • View and edit route maps and view previous data for all squares or stretches in their region.
  • See which volunteers have submitted data for the current year.
  • View/check all data and routes submitted by volunteers in their region.
  • Add comments to online data (these comments can only be seen by the RO and the BBS/WBBS National organiser at BTO HQ – not the volunteer).
  • Look up paper form preferences for volunteers in their regions.
  • See which volunteers are taking part in the Wider Countryside Butterfly Survey.
  • Download volunteer contact details and survey preferences

A Video Tutorial can be found on the Regional Network resource pages introducing ROs to the BBS Online system. Guidance for volunteers, which may also be of use to ROs, can be found on the BBS Online webpage.
